Embracing the Growth Mindset
All people have an innate intelligence and possess the ability to learn and develop their abilities with consistent effort and perseverance. When we make mistakes, we should understand what went wrong and how to correct ourselves. The fundamental concept behind the Growth Mindset is that everyone can improve if they work at it.
Integrated Approach to Skill Building
We have developed an integrated approach to learning and skill-building. Our academic coaching and tutoring are client-centered, and the focus is always on the student's needs. We administer diagnostic exams to understand better how the student performs in the class or on the exam. Our tutors will provide the lessons in-person at the client's home or local library and online on the Zoom platform. We will review the assessment results and lay out the plan for the coming weeks. We create personalized lesson plans for each student that target the areas needing attention and design engaging and relevant lessons. Two of our main goals are maximizing student engagement and creating a positive learning environment. All tutoring sessions begin with rapport building and creating a space where students feel comfortable asking questions and interacting with their tutor.
Differentiated Instruction
Some people learn differently. We all have different learning styles, possessing various cognitive strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, some students are neurodivergent and may have a learning disability. These deficits can exist in reading, writing, oral communication, memory and processing, and math. Often, these students may have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or a 504 plan at school, which affords them specific accommodations. These accommodations are beneficial, and we will incorporate them into our tutoring sessions.
Team Model
A team approach is most effective when working with students because it allows for the inclusion of more perspectives. Communication among all team members is vital since collaboration and cooperation consistently achieve the most successful outcomes. Parents will receive regular progress reports with updates on their children's improvement. We can also communicate with school teachers, therapists, and other professionals supporting the child.
Accountability
Another piece of the learning puzzle we are passionate about is accountability. Our ultimate goal is to help our students become independent, resilient, self-motivated learners. Students need to take responsibility for their effort and their assignments. We will teach, support, and motivate them to the best of our ability and create a positive learning environment where they can grow and flourish. They must keep up with their work, attend class on time, and do their best to learn the material.
