Developing Resilience

Updated: Sep 21, 2023

Learning a new language or a new subject can be challenging. It requires commitment, organization, focus, and perseverance. In order to be successful, we have to practice and study on a regular basis. We need to create a study schedule and stick with that schedule. Sometimes we will feel successful, like we are making progress. Other times, we will feel like we are not making any headway and our efforts are useless. This can be frustrating for us.

We need to toughen up a bit and become more resilient. Resilience is the ability to endure difficult situations or persevere through difficult tasks so that we can finish our work. If we are lacking in this area, we may have trouble sticking with with things that are hard or unpleasant. We may have trouble moving ahead and making progress.

As we practice staying with things that are hard for us, we build up a tolerance. After a while, we begin to gain more strength which allows to endure longer. What ultimately happens is we get better at the task or skill and are more able to handle similar types of situations and challenges. We build up our endurance and also build self confidence. We begin to see that we are capable of learning and growing, which enhances our self esteem..
