We all love doing things that we are good at. When we are good at a certain task or activity, we tend to succeed often which makes us feel good. This motivates us to want to practice the task in order to get that wonderful feeling of success.
When we are not very good at something, we tend to get more frustrated because it is more difficult. We don't get that feeling of sucess and may even feel that we are a failure or just not very competent. This experience can make us want to quit and give up altogether.
It turns out that this is exactly when we need to be putting in more effort to get better. Persevering through these uncomfortable periods is what leads us to greater growth. The ability to endure these challenges gives us an inner sense of accomplishment. These good feelings will motivate us to persist longer and practice more often. It is this process that leads to make those improvements and,
eventually, to achieve mastery.
